Rare disqualification mars Vegas weekend

Saturday, April 18th, 2009
Overall, our weekend in Vegas started out very well. We were able to get our first #1 qualifier of the year. That shows our Quaker State team has been working hard toward improving not just our performance but our consistency as well. We also made it past the first round of eliminations.

In the second round I did something that is very rare and I’ve only done it a couple of times in my career. I crossed the center line and was disqualified. We had a pretty solid weekend in Houston by getting to the semifinals. That was important because we were in Quaker State’s backyard with their headquarters being located in downtown Houston.

Going into the weekend, Friday ended up being a very humid and warm day. One of the qualifying sessions actually got rained out, but the NHRA officials worked extremely hard to try to get it in. The track did get dry but as the day was approaching the evening hours, the air was just too damp. There is a dew point that the NHRA has to take into account and if it becomes too moist and not safe to run the cars down the track then track activities have to be cancelled. Unfortunately, that was the case on Friday.
