The Fast Lane: Ready for a trifecta

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Bristol was a good weekend, but we’re sttill looking for that great weekend.

It was our second final round appearance of the year and the highlight of the weekend was teaming up with Jimmie Johnson and the Jimmie Johnson Foundation. What a great response we received from the audience at the track and the emails that poured in through our website.

Bristol Dragway seemed to be the ideal venue to reach an audience that would be attending a drag race but, at the same time, would be familiar with arguably one of the most famous NASCAR drivers. I’ve always believed that there is a bigger crossover audience between NASCAR and the NHRA than most would think. With a little luck, some diecast collectible cars will follow and the proceeds will go to Jimmie’s foundation. It’s a great cause anytime you can help families with children in need.

Looking Back at St. Louis

Another solid semifinal finish at the O’Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals in St. Louis, and we’re closing in on that Winner’s Circle.

We have to balance patience and aggression at the same time. We’re getting close to that first win! We did move up to third in the NHRA Full Throttle Countdown with our last run, so we are making steady progress.

Tony Pedregon Racing To Feature Jimmie Johnson Foundation Scheme In Bristol

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Two-Time Funny Car NHRA Champion and Three-Time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion partner to raise awareness for the JJF

Indianapolis, Ind. (May 15, 2009) – Tony Pedregon Racing announced its Chevrolet Impala piloted by two-time Funny Car NHRA champion Tony Pedregon will feature a Jimmie Johnson Foundation paint scheme in the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at the Bristol Dragway in Bristol, Tenn., May 15-17.

“I wanted to do something special and unique with our Chevrolet this weekend,” stated Pedregon. “I know Jimmie and Chandra and appreciate the work they are doing for those less fortunate. I really wanted to do a charitable tie with the car this weekend and thought this was a unique way to bring awareness to some great causes that I feel deserve some attention as well.”

The Jimmie Johnson Foundation was founded by three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson and his wife, Chandra, and is dedicated to assisting children, families and communities in need throughout the United States.

Pedregon and Johnson formed a friendship over the last few years largely due to the Herzog family. Stan and Randy Herzog were instrumental in helping Johnson throughout his early career, owning the teams that Johnson drove for in American Speed Association series and the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Johnson captured his first NASCAR win driving for the Herzogs in 2001 at Chicagoland Speedway in the Nationwide Series. The Herzogs have been a supporter of Tony Pedregon Racing for several years, serving as a primary sponsor as well as an associate sponsor throughout the season.

“This is an amazing gesture by Tony and his team,” said Johnson, who will be competing in the NASCAR Sprint All-Star race on Saturday at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. “Tony was kind enough to run a Jimmie Johnson Foundation decal on his Chevy for a few races last season and it generated some great awareness for our foundation and when he called me and suggested this, we were truly touched. It speaks a lot about the type of person Tony is.”

In addition to their Herzog connection, Pedregon and Johnson share a connection with Quaker State which is the primary sponsor of Pedregon’s Chevy Impala and is a sponsor of Hendrick Motorsports and Johnson’s No. 48 Lowe’s Impala SS. Pedregon and Johnson also share relationships with Chevrolet and Mahle Clevite.

“Jimmie and I have a lot in common,” added Pedregon. “We both grew up in California and worked extremely hard to get to where we are today. We share a determination to succeed and are extremely thankful for our success and a desire to give back to those that are less fortunate. I see this as a starting point for some wonderful things that we can do together to make a difference.”

Pedregon look for success in St. Louis

Friday, May 1st, 2009

The Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway was the sixth race of the season and we had another strong performance with a semifinal finish to move up to fourth in the NHRA Full Throttle Series.

There are two things that you look at during the course of the year: points and winning the race. Ultimately, we are all pursuing the championship. Positioning going into the Countdown to the Championship is very valuable. In that regard, Atlanta was a good weekend but in the end, there’s nothing like winning the race. We will continue to work towards winning for all the companies that have partnered with us.
