The Fast Lane: Tough break in Seattle

We rolled into Seattle with the motorcoach. What a beautiful city it is.
Pacific Raceways is definitely close to the nicest facility we race at. NASCAR doesn’t even get close to this market. The race went a lot like the race at Chicago — we were great qualifying, got the pole on Friday and even improved our time on Saturday.
The short version is that we made it to the final round. But these 8,000 horsepower nitro-breathing cars decide to do what they want by themselves sometimes….

The Fast Lane: On the road again

The race in Denver last weekend started out great with a strong qualifying effort.

We were qualified in the No. 1 spot after the first day, but in the end we were seeded No. 2. That was another great starting position for the Quaker State car. In regards to the entire weekend, our expectations were greater as we only made it to the second round. There was a 10-degree swing in the track temperature in between our two passes. We couldn’t make the correct changes quick enough to go along with the temperature change and that may have contributed to the car being too weak for the conditions.

The Fast Lane: Making changes for Denver

Going into Norwalk with the points lead was great, but I had a feeling it would change hands.

We had very, very sub-par track conditions, but it is still our responsibility to adjust to the conditions. However, that was the probably the biggest cause of our problem in the first round resulting in the loss. With these cars, there are so many variables and so many things that have to go right mechanically. It was just one of those races that our Quaker State machine lost traction…
