The Fast Lane: Off to to a great (re)start

Friday, August 21st, 2009

The new beginning got off to a good start. We were defending champions going into the Brainerd race, and by returning the Quaker State car to the Winner’s Circle it really proved to me that what I thought and believed was correct: My belief is that the success of this team is not based on one person, but of the team coming together as a whole.

Through the evolution of NHRA, it’s become a lot like NASCAR in the respect that every component is important. My fear entering my first race without my longtime crew chief and his assistant wasn’t so much being without them, but rather putting everyone in the right place on such short notice.

Cecily Pedregon kicked off the Hair Cutting portion of June 27th Locks of Love Event by donating her own hair for the cause. Over 40 more people were right in line following Cecily who also donated their ponytails to the organization which provides the high quality hair prosthetics to children with medical hair loss.

The big hair cutting event was followed by a Memorabila Auction which collected over $19,300 through the sale of donated items from NHRA Teams and from direct donations!

It was an emotionally charged day, many people seemed to have a story about “why” they were contributing to the cause. Regardless if it was a spouse, son, daughter, friend or relative it was clear that many that had been touched by the effects of Cancer or other devastating illnesses and wanted to help contribute in some way. We ended the day quite touched at how big people’s hearts are and definitely felt the “Good” in people which you don’t hear about in the news.

Andrea Pedregon, organizer of the event, commented “This event definitely exceeded my expectations. I am proud of my daughter Cecily, niece Alanna, co-workers
Judy & Christina and so many additional individuals, (who also happen to be big NHRA race fans)
for such a kind & priceless act… Many thanks & gratitude to those who helped make this event such a wonderful success!”
