Semifinal Finish Leads to Big Point Gain for Pedregon in Chicago

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

In the Pits at ChicagoTony Pedregon and the STP/Armor All Funny Car took to the track in Chicago last week and had a strong weekend.

Qualifying for the O’Reilly Route 66 NHRA Nationals was held Friday and Saturday at Route 66 Raceway. The STP machine was solid throughout qualifying. TPR had some slight tire spin in a couple rounds but was one of three drivers to make it down the track every time in the four second bracket. Although the STP/Armor Allcar was fourth fastest in two of the four rounds, TPR started race day qualified very solidly in the field in tenth position.

In an all brother first round matchup, the STP/Armor All Impala, went straight down the track, while Cruz’s car struggled. Tony then defeated Dale Creasy Jr. with a solid 4.31 run.

A lot of work faced the crew after round one. After winning, the engine blew resulting in lots of work needing done in between rounds. However, with help, Tony’s team was ready for round number two. Cruz and the Snap On team also had a special paint scheme in support of the Wounded Warriors Project.

“Overall, it was a productive weekend,”  the all-time Funny Car win leader at Chicago, Tony Pedregon, said. “I think that conditions were challenging, but I think we will see more of that at the crucial races for us, so we will have to continue to get into some late rounds to break into the top ten.”

This weekend, Tony Pedregon takes the Herzog Contracting Corp. Impala to Bandimere Speedway for the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals.
