Tony Pedregon and the Herzog Contracting Corp. Funny Car had a quick end to its weekend at Bandimere Speedway this past weekend.
The Herzog machine took to qualifying on Friday and Saturday for the Mopar Mile-High Nationals. The car got down the track in the fourth qualifying round with an elapsed time of 4.360. That run locked Tony Pedregon and TPR into its 98th straight NHRA Full Throttle Funny Car Series race.
Sunday was the elimination rounds. Tony took the Herzog Contracting Corp. Funny Car to the line in the twelfth starting position; his first round opponent was John Force.
Tony’s owns 25 round wins versus Force, and he almost added another. Tony beat him off the line, and led early. However, he was unable to add another round win to his numbers. Force took the victory by just three hundreths.
“Although we did put up a fight, our expectations were to win. It seems the car slowed down due to an error that caused much of the engine oil to get pumped into the clutch can. I am amazed that without have of a bearing in the engine that the car was even able to perform as well as it did. Looks like we can thank STP for the oil treatment.”
Tony and TPR are preparing the STP/Armor All Funny Car for the second round of the Western Swing, the Fram Autolite Nationals.
